Some followup...
Well, it's been two weeks, and I've heard from two AF2 (Arena Football League 2) teams, the Florida Firecats and the South Georga Wildcats. I've heard from three AIFA (American Indoor Football Association) teams, the Columbus Lions, The Augusta Spartans, and the Florida Stingrays.
Still nothing from the Storm or the Force.
I don't know what this means in regards to the AFL teams... Except not much of anything. As far as the AF2 and the AIFA teams, all 5 of them said that I showed great field awareness, athleticism, and knowledge of my position, and that they'd like me to come try out for their teams at a closed tryout. The problem...
All five are greater than 100 miles from my home, and the AF2 pays 200 dollars a week... The AIFL, even less.
I can't leave my home and go play for a team for $2400 a year. I mean... I love football. And if they were here in my city (or even close to me), I'd do it just to play. But I can't really afford to make a commitment that takes me away from my home for less than it costs to feed my cats and dogs each year (and take them to the vet... Our cats are fat, but not $2400.00 of Purina Cat Chow fat).
I heard from a few guys I met during the tryouts (there were 2 guys who were with me at both Tampa and Georgia, and we've kept in touch) that neither the Storm nor the Force have yet to contact them - and all three of us heard directly from the Offensive Coordinator of the Force that we'd hear back from them.
So for now, I'm just waiting. And I know that all three of the people reading this are waiting (hi mom and dad... And whoever you are, LostinAlbuquerque837...), so I thought I'd just check in with you and let you know how it's going (or more correctly, how it's not).

They told you it would be a while. You told me sometime in November, right? So they've got 30 more days to contact you.
It'll happen, Joe.
Lol you would actually make about 10,000 a year.... there is roughly 4.2 weeks in a month, hence about 840.00 a month, which equals 10,080. :P Just wanted to point that out, good luck to you man.
I'm guessing Joe's figures come from something like they're only paying for the weeks during the football season (or rather on a per game basis?), not year round.
Anyway, the suspense is killing me. It's got to be driving Joe absolutely nuts. At least knowing that there are other teams that were really impressed with him is a good sign.
hey i know a GREAT way to take your mind off of it.
WRITE SOME MORE GOD #(*$ FU#()* STORIES!!!!
:) seriously where is the next chapter
Yeah, I agree, post some more! No word yet? Have they picked the teams? There are always injuries so stay in shape and keep your hopes up!
Congrats for trying though, you've done more than most people ever would! You should be proud of that above anything else.
Have you though about taking up Judo or Jujitsu? Maybe you could continue your training and focus on triathlons!
Just read the Force have another tryout Dec. 1st...if they're iffy on you, trying out again might help.
Well, at least you heard back from other teams. Since I took a nasty ankle sprain on my Chicago Rush tryout on the last play, I've heard nothing back from anyone besides the Rush. From my evaluation I was told 'I would need considerable improvement to play pro, but I could try AF2'...but yeah, $200 a game if you lose or $250 if you win is not a great way to support the habit. The fact that I couldn't catch any of those god awful balls didn't help.
At least we know how hard it is in fact to get into the AFL.
I know its trite, but sometimes no news is good news. :-) I'm sure if you had no shot to make the team you would have heard from them by now.
Keep us updated.
